At this stage, Fire and Emergency New Zealand does not formally support the expansion of this programme. However, we recognise that some brigades may already be operating a cadet programme, or may be considering establishing their own local youth initiative.
To help ensure these programmes are delivered safely and effectively, we continue to provide guidance, resources, and support to interested brigades.
If your brigade is interested in starting a cadet programme, or would like further information, please contact us at national@cadetprogramme.co.nz or call 020 4013 8037.
One of the key strengths of the Cadet Programme is its flexibility. Each brigade can tailor the programme to suit its local circumstances, including deciding when sessions are held, how often they run, and the duration of each session.
The programme is designed for young people aged 12–16 years. However, brigades may choose to allow cadets to remain in the programme until they reach 18 years of age, supporting their ongoing development and transition into adulthood.
